pay of languages and also consider about English certificates.
The pay of house rent should also be brought to consideration.
Scale of house allowance.
Jemadars allowed $20 each per month.
Sergeant Majors allowed $15 each per month.

Passage money to all ranks should also be paid
on both ways for steamer and train while on leave, and only 1
way while one retires on pension, thus amounting a sum of $70

The Jemadars are 2nd. class passage money for 1
way. This privilege is granted to all ranks in the Artillery
in Hongkong, Singapore and Ceylon. In the Artillery 6 months
leave of absence is granted to all ranks in full pay and free
passages.
